Etymology of the slipper



English:  slipper-loafer(slip,the notion being of a shoe that is "slipped" onto the foot)
Italian:  pantofola,ciabatta(ciabatta,type of Italian bread."carpet slipper",so called for its shape,from the same source that produced French sabot,Spanish zapata)
